| Mission of the Breast Exam Project
Our mission statement (updated):
-
Raising Awareness for early detection
-
Producing the song on CD called "Changes" which describes how to do a self breast exam to music. With additional fundraising, producing the music video for "Changes". We would like to approach a variety of organizations who would like to manufacture the DVD for their various groups so they can be given away at events such as breast cancer walks, sporting events, music events, and maybe make it available at doctor's offices, major stores and drug stores. (If we don't put it out there it won't happen.) Empowering people of all walks of life to take care of their health.
There are other segments to this project including a wide collection of interviews with breast cancer survivors over the past four years. We find ourselves at this point in time, limited to the release of the music video DVD of the self breast exam called "Changes" which was the first step in this project.
We hope to have the opportunity to add the other components of our mission, with additional funding. In the meantime, please support the project by ordering your self breast exam music video. Thank you so much for helping us get to this point.

1. Raising Awareness for early detection
As we travel for the DVD production, we attend a variety of events such as: Lucie Blue Concerts, Folk Concerts, Music Festivals, Boat Shows, Harley Davison Shops, Relay for Life events, Walks for the Cure, Bike Rallies, Sports events, RV'ing Rallies, and Motorcycle Exhibits. As we plan for these events, we contact local breast cancer resources so they can share the local resources available. When they cannot attend the event we arrange to pick up the local printed materials to have at our events. In some cities we can hold joint benefit concerts.
We believe that by driving across the highways of the US and Canada, we are a constant reminder for people to do their self breast exam monthly. We also advertise that IT ISN'T JUST A GIRL THING. In our travels we have found that 96 % of the men we spoke to did not know that they can also be diagnosed with breast cancer. Knowledge is truly the key to early detection.
Since the inception of the project in August 2005, we have travelled over 87,000 miles..(145,000 km)

(The following objectives are dependant upon future funding)
-
Our goal with this DVD is to make it available free in hospitals, doctor’s waiting rooms, breast imaging waiting rooms, drug stores, sports events and as many gatherings as we can think of. We are hoping it will take on a life of its own. We also plan on touring in the college network to educate young men and women. There is also a great need to target low income families as we believe that early detection is the key to better health as well as a more cost effective health care experience. Travels through Native American land will also be included in our travels when the project is completed.
3. A wealth of information
All through our travels, people have asked us questions which are then tranferred into our bank of questions for health care professionals to address during our final interview for the DVD. We want to make sure that the years we have spent accumulating questions and information are reflected in the final interviews with our health care professionals on camera.
We will also be asking these medical professionals to explain and compare the newest technologies available today.
4. Interviews with breast cancer survivors
This segment of the project will include interviews with breast cancer survivors of a variety of ages and walks of life. These amazing people share their stories and put it all out there. There is Life After Breast Cancer!
